General Questions

Magnetar products can be purchased directly from this website or found at authorized dealers across the US.  You can shop on our site or check our dealer list found here: https://www.magnetarusa.com/apps/store-locator

If you are outside of the United States, you can find a list of distributors here: https://magnetar-audio.com/where-to-buy/

Be careful when purchasing online as there are many unscrupulous online sellers on forums, eBay, and other sites who are not authorized sellers/dealers of Magnetar products. Those products are void of warranty and may be used, damaged, defective, not for use in a particular country or otherwise unsafe.

Magnetar takes safety, quality, and customer experience seriously, and actively monitors for and pursues unauthorized sellers of Magnetar products.

If you have any questions before purchasing, we recommend you just give us a call or send us a note prior to purchasing and we'll be happy to assist.

Technology

Yes, audio is sent out both HDMI/Digital and Analog simultaneously.

Yes, Magnetar players support dual HDMI. You can use HDMI 2 to send audio to AVR's and Pre-Amps which do not support the video formats the Magnetar players do (i.e. 4K, HDR 10+, Dolbyvision, 3D, etc).

If your AVR/Pre-Amp supports all of the formats the Magnetar does, it is recommended that you use HDMI 1 directly to you AVR/Pre-Amp and HDMI out of your Pre-Amp to your display. This will alleviate any EDID based issues from displays that do not support audio.

Unfortunately, Magnetar players do not support HDMI inputs.

Player Issues

Fingerprints, debris, outgassing, or scratched/blemished discs, while frustrating, are not the only cause of customers having disc issues. As one of the largest physical media player manufacturers in the world, are unfortunately an industry issue primarily due to the variance of quality of manufacturers, compliance with specifications, and authoring issues.

Recently, it has been learned that a large number of both DVD and Bluray titles were found to be poorly manufactured and we've seen some customers reporting this as player issues.

Even such prestigious physical media stalwarts Criterion have seen numerous titles with known issues, with one of the most notable being Criterion's 4K Citizen Kane title requiring replacement. In this case, Criterion required customers break their disc in half and photograph it in order to acquire a replacement.

It's an unfortunate reality of the medium and we are always working hard to insure playability and compatibility with every title and often work with cooperating studios when customer patterns arise around certain titles.

You can learn more about these types of issues here: https://www.joblo.com/over-600-blu-ray-titles-no-longer-work/ and here: https://www.joblo.com/warner-bros-dvds-dont-work

It's always a good idea to have a micro-fiber cloth handy as it can be the slightest blemish that can cause mega-frustration. Insuring your discs are clean is the first step when issues are experienced.

A good point of reference is if the player is seeing issues persistently with every disc. In these cases, we're happy to step in, take a look and make sure your player is operating correctly via our support channels.

In sum, the occasional disc misread, freeze, skip, is a rare and unfortunate nature of the beast. Googling the issue can also help reveal certain tips and tricks and reveal if there are any issues native to certain problem titles or discs.

It is recommended that you insure all of your sharing permissions are set to allow the player to access your network based files/folders. If you secure them, be sure to note any username or password needed by the player to access them.

While we cannot assist with issues related to customer networks, security settings, or operating system settings, (we cannot be responsible for networking/security issues and cannot discuss any details other than the above with customers), we're happy to assist with any player related issues in specific.

As a result of the simultaneous output of audio via HDMI and Analog, audio dropouts can occur based on and HDMI handshake initiation/re-initiation (turning on tv while listening to analog audio, audio will drop 3 short intervals while the HDMI handshake occurs). Also, devices in the HDMI chain that persistently poll devices can cause interruptions. We have seen devices which poll incessantly and needlessly causing excesive traffic on the CEC bus resulting in handshake drops and reinitiation between devices.
