Issues with Dolby vision blu rays

  • Some blu rays with dolby vision has issues displaying the the special features. The issue is how the magnetar is handling the dolby vision signal. I'd have to change manually and restart the disc to access different parts of the disc whether I have to set it on low latency which changes the signal to Ycbcr 422 to be able to access the special features or LL RGB which changes to an RGB signal to play the movie or show I'm watching. The Auto setting has a bug it doesn't work. This causes flickering in some disc. I've experience this issue with TOP GUN 1 & 2 special features the last of us special features, the substance top menu, madalorian season 3 special features just to name a few. This issue just seems to spawn on dolby vision not hdr 10.

Your best bet is to open a support ticket as this issue sounds related to the supported Dolbyvison modes of your display.

Dolbyvision Low Latency simply means the Magnetar player is doing the processing vs. your display doing the processing.

We have those titles (Top Gun 1 & 2) and Substance and are unable to replicate this issue across Sony, Hisense UST, LG or Samsung panels.

As a note, it's always good to check what resolution the special features are in, as for example Top Gun: Maverick special features are not in 4K and thus Dolbyvision or related settings would not be applicable.

Dolbyvision Auto settings has no known or reported bugs currently and the codebase has not been changed.

    Thank You

  • @Magnetar Concierge my display is the LG G2 oled, and my resolution has always been set to source direct.

  • Hi Marco

There are a number of settings on both the player and the G2 that can affect this, as well as disc authoring (which is not the case for the titles you report). As previously noted, we recommend opening a direct support ticket for this issue as the complexities involved in the quite long list of possible settings far exceed tier 1 forum support.

Source direct = external signal processing

Specific Dolbyvision settings = Internal signal processing.

Setting them both can cause you issues.

  • Thank you I'll open a ticket now @Magnetar Concierge
